Are you a graphic designer? Join our team!

We are looking for two volunteers with general graphic design skills to work with the Open Access Button team. The Open Access Button is a browser plugin that maps and tracks the impacts of scholarly journal paywalls. The Button beta launched on November 18 and gained international media attention, including from The Guardian. The coming months will be an exciting time for everyone involved as the Open Access Button team continues to advocate for open access and further develops the Button.

The work of the designers will include designing outreach materials, creating graphics for use on social media, and illustrating comics about open access. Working on the Open Access Button will involve a reasonable time commitment. You’ll be joining a hardworking, but laid back and fun team.

General qualifications and requirements for this position include regular computer access and the ability to work online; proficient use of design programs, such as but not necessarily Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign; video production skills are a huge plus; and familiarity with Facebook, Twitter, and WordPress is a plus.

If you would like to apply please complete the short form below. All students, both undergraduate and postgraduate from all disciplines, are welcome to apply. Regional representation on the project is highly desirable. If you’re in Afghanistan, Zimbabwe or anywhere in between, we encourage you to apply. Deadline for applications is January 31st at 11:59 GMT. If you have any questions, please email us at openaccessbutton@medsin.org.
